“She looked over at graffiti scrawled on the wooden fence running beside the tracks. There were dark, scrambled tags on a green meter box. The sharp black edges of Posik and the dark curves of Gooz. They were new. Vivienne recognised all the changes; she’d been looking at the growing collection of tags for months. From nothing, blank space, they’d sprung up. Splashes of red and blue had made her curious, then she’d noticed patterns, repeated symbols and groups of letters she couldn’t understand. Often the colours only lasted a day before they were covered over by black tags. All the strange shapes and patterns made her think of a new, hidden world that she was growing into.”
